In 2017, Strategic Spaces were engaged to design break out lounge furniture for the Central Malls development at Robina Town Centre, Gold Coast. In response to this brief we designed seating that incorporated a mix of solid hardwood timber, GRC (glass fibre reinforced concrete) and planting.
The break out lounges act as a meeting and resting zone within Central Malls and as such, we saw this as an opportunity to work with the built environment and to marry with the architectural surrounds. The organic aesthetic and form of each lounge is an extension of the undulating ceiling overhead, which was designed by architects ACME and The Buchan Group.
Our team designed two units, one that incorporated a planter within and one with an extended, cantilevered nose. Each unit combines Victorian Ash timber tops and GRC bases, which provided durability and resistance as well as complementing the architectural and furniture finishes throughout other parts of the centre.
Strategic Spaces were also engaged to design the wayfinding masterplan at Robina Town Centre.
